The agreement facilitates the development of projects above 500kW in size in the country by PPA schemes.
Dear friends and customers,

By these message we refer to the recent news and headlines related to the deep energy crisis that Colombia is facing, and the increased tariffs to the users. It is already a fact that the commercial and industrial sectors will have to, once again, assume the increased costs of national generators, situation which is framed during one of the periods with the highest volatility in the energy stock market recorded. Climate change is already having a deep impact on the national economy and the companies that thrive on it.

In order to face this energy crisis, the eyes of investors are on the promise of energy independency that renewables represent, articulated by the legislative and economic support given by Law 1715 of 2014, which is already a reality. On November 4 2015, the goverment released Decree 2143 of 2015, by which regulation is set for taxation, customs and other economic incentives that benefit those who choose to invest in renewables and energy efficiency programs.

In order to masify the use of these technologies in the country, GIE and the British company  IWANA ENERGY have partnered in order to offer customers in Colombia interested in developing mid and large scale projects (above 500kW) a new development alternative known as a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement). Under this scheme, the customer does not make any kind of investment; IWANA ENERGY is willing to invest on 100% of the cost of any systems or equipment and offer the customer an energy tariff that is more economical on the short, mid and long term than that offered by the energy commercializer. IWANA would become owner of an assett whose only purpose is that of supplying cheap, sustainable, reliable energy, giving the customer tangible savings and partial or complete independence of the volatile energy market.
PPA GIEOn the other hand, IWANA ENERGY and GIE have hired the law firm Cañon & Cañon who were instrumental advisors to the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the UPME in the elaboration of Law 1715. The positive impacts of this law and the required procedures to access it's benefits is now possible with the legal advice of the referenced firm, and is a support service that is now available for projects veleoped by GIE and IWANA ENERGY.

For more information, don't hesitate to contact us. We are open to help you interpret this new opportunity, without a doubt historical in the frame of the energy industry in Colombia.
